is nfl parity dead?

Jerry Greene, sports columnist of the Orlando Sentinel, has an interesting article today called Debunking myth: No parity in NFL. He took a look at some of the past few seasons and this season in particular to see if “parity” still exists.

His conclusion?

…there was no parity in the NFL this year. Far from it.

Some interesting points:

  • In 2002, 15 of 32 teams finished between seven and nine games (of 16)
  • In 2004, 11 of 32 teams finished between seven and nine games (of 16)
  • In 2005, 5 of 32 teams finished between seven and nine games (of 16)

It certainly has been trending that way. I don’t know about the 2003 season. Greene didn’t mention it and I’m too lazy to look it up. Actually I’m not too lazy. I’m too apathetic. But I do find it interesting!
