my food allergy update

I’m bummed. You may remember that I’ve got some temporary food allergies.

Some of the foods I had to stay off of for 6 months. So I was going to be able to reintroduce some of these back to my diet on Dec 15. Then the doc extended it to Jan 15.

Yesterday I found out that it’s going to be extended even further. More like June 15.

So, for those of you keeping score at home, here’s my food allergy schedule:

Starting May 1, 2005 avoid (reintroduced Sept 15):

  • Yeast
  • Sugar
  • Carbs
  • Fermented Foods

Starting June 15, 2005 avoid (reintroduce Dec 15 Jan 15, 2006 June 15, 2006):

  • Beef
  • Wheat
  • Navy Beans
  • Malt

Starting June 15, 2005 avoid (reintroduce June 15, 2006 Dec 15, 2006):

  • Dairy
  • Eggs
  • Barley
  • Oats
  • Rye
  • Almonds

Then I saw this today and I feel a little better 😉

Thanks. We’re making progress, but it’s just taking time, money, and lots of discipline!

I have a severe Nut, Fish, Soy, and legume allergy and i have severe asthma. I have to limet my diet for ever and im constantly on medication for my asthma. Be happy that your dietary restrictions are only temperary and be happy you dont have life threatning allergies and asthma. If i so much as walk into a room with a person eating something im allergic to with in twenty seconds i go into anaphlatic shock. My throat closes up and i get hives I stop breathing and pass out. This is such a hard thing to live with and people are not always so understanding. Ive had a girl throw food at me in school b/c she thought my allergys was “in my head” i immediatly had a reaction. this is not something to take lightly at all. I dont want to scare you and my thoughts are with you because i know first hand how hard this can be but i wanted to tell you how lucky you are to have temperary food allergies i really wish i had that. I hope your feeling better soon and i hope this note shows people how serious this can be b/c quite frankly im very sick of allergies and asthma being taken so lightly, As the press so often does (the canadien girl who died from kissing her boyfriend who had nuts) thanks.

Lea, I tried to reply to you via email but it bounced. I’m going to copy my email to you here hoping you’ll come back and read it. Hope to hear back from you…

Lea, thank you for taking the time to write this comment on my blog this weekend. I was humbled and impressed at the same time.

You are right. Sometimes my grumbling is just selfish grumbling. I know there are many others who have it worse than I do. Thank you for sharing how tough your situation is. I’m really glad you shared this for others on my blog also. Have you seen food nutritionists to help you?

With all of these physical allergies that you have — and the severity of them — how do you cope daily? I mean more emotionally. Obviously there are physical things you do to cope (avoid situations that put you in harms way). But I’m sure you’d agree that there is an emotional response to this…probably even more complex than the physical.

    What keeps you going?
