island breakfast

rob | travel | Thursday, June 29th, 2006

colorful fruity beveragesI never know what to expect when I visit another country. The people are always nice and the food is always good. But sometimes the food is quite different than what I’m used to.

I’ve had breakfast here twice now. The first one was instant coffee, bacon, corned beef, and a cabbage/veggie medley. It was very good, but a St. Patrick’s Day meal for breakfast in Trinidad wasn’t what I expected. Though, technically, the roots for corned beef and cabbage is an island meal, just an island in the North Atlantic!

Today was a little different. Still had the instant coffee (if I ever change jobs, I’m going to open a Starbucks in Trinidad), the same veggie medley, but for meat the choice was a beef dish that looked like taco meat or sword fish. I had the fish.

Not that any of it doesn’t taste good. I’m just not used to this kind of breakfast!

Oh, and check out all the juices that are offered at lunch and dinner (see photo, duh!). Tasty!

off to trinidad

rob | travel | Monday, June 26th, 2006

I will be jet-setting again in the morning. This time to Trinidad. So blogging might be a bit spotty at best.

But don’t worry…I have the Foto Friday entry all lined up and ready to go Friday morning!

I will certainly post as I can…and will upload photos when I can to Flickr. If you want to know more about why I’m going or what I’m doing, check out our ministry blog. I’ll try and post some there too under “Travel“.

Peace and love, y’all…

UPDATE: I made it…will be posting photos here.

where would you work?

rob | whatever | Sunday, June 25th, 2006

Question: If you could work anywhere for the knowledge or experience for three months, where would you work?

Criteria: It’s not about the money, it’s about the experience or knowledge that you receive by working there.

Mine:

  • Starbucks - I think it’d be cool to learn and understand the thousands of types of coffee, how to make them, and what they are all about
  • Panera Bread Company - Again, I think it would be cool to learn how to bake and make all the different kinds of breads and pastries
  • NFL Sideline Photographer - To develop my photography skills in an environment that I love!
  • Yahoo’s Strategic Planning Group - I don’t know if they really have one, but it would be so cool to be part of a large company playing ‘catch-up’ to Google, yet leading in the social marketing area (as a portal).

world cup’s sweet sixteen

rob | sports | Friday, June 23rd, 2006

There’s only sixteen teams left in the World Cup. Who ya got?

  • Germany
  • Sweden
  • Argentina
  • Mexico
  • Italy
  • Australia
  • Switzerland
  • Ukraine
  • England
  • Ecuador
  • Portugal
  • Netherlands
  • Brazil
  • Ghana
  • Spain
  • France

I’m pulling for the Netherlands. They are orange. And I really liked it there (not that I didn’t like traveling to England and Spain). I hope Spain, England, and Holland do well, but I think Brazil will win.

You?

orlando’s new menace

rob | fantasy football, sports | Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

June 22, 2006 :: Orlando, Florida :: From the Office of Coach Williams

Today, Coach Williams is making the official announcement that the team name has been sold…again. Williams coached the Orlando Chupacabras last season but has worked out a deal so that Williams no longer retains the rights to the mascot “Chupacabras”. Details for the deal are undisclosed.

Additionally, Coach Williams unveiled a new mascot and logo today. Much speculation has been swirling for weeks as to what direction the marketing team would go with their 2006 name. After many different proposals were presented to Coach Williams, the decision was reached yesterday with the official announcement today.

Orlando BullsharksFor the 2006 fantasy football season, Coach Williams will now be the head coach for the Orlando Bullsharks.

“Bullsharks are dangerous. They are found in both oceans and rivers. There are only three sharks that actually attack and kill people: tiger sharks, great white sharks, and bull sharks. Here in Florida, it’s all bull sharks,” Coach Williams said at the press conference early this morning.

When asked why the name was one word instead of the proper two words, the chief marketing director for the organization simply said, “it is what it is”, much to the obvious chagrin of the coach.

Nevertheless, the Bullsharks will begin their mini-camp next week in Trinidad. “I want the organization to have a feel for a more tropical environment if they are to understand what the Bullsharks are all about,” Coach Williams said.

League play begins September 7.

rocket launch

rob | current event, navel gazing | Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

Rocket launch, originally uploaded by orangejack.

One thing that is cool about living in Orlando is that we’re about 50 miles from NASA. That reminds me, we still need to tour that place.

Anyway, one cool thing is every once in a while, I’ll be driving along and look up to the east and see a com-trail going up into the sky.

I couldn’t get my Treo out quick enough to get this rocket while it was lower. It was like a giant orange flame going into the sky. I wish the pic was better, but it was the best I could do looking through a dirty windshield.

Kinda cool.

nobody’s watching

rob | current event, techno cool, video | Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

This is really cool. Network passes on sitcom pilot, now it’s on YouTube.

A sitcom that didn’t get picked up by WB last year is now available for viewing (in full!!) on YouTube. It’s called Nobody’s Watching and it was created by Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence and two writers for The Family Guy. The show is hilarious. It’s about two guys who love television and get their own sitcom on WB.

I watched it all and it really was hilarious. Nice product placement, nice concept, nice cameos. View part 1, part 2, and part 3.

will return clock

rob | off the wall, techno cool | Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

This is funny. You’ve seen the “Will Return In” signs on storefronts, offices, etc, right?

Well this sign isn’t a sign at all…it’s a clock. So though it looks just like the “Will Return In” sign, it’s actually continually clicking away!

Here’s an idea of how to use it:

put it on your office door and set it fifteen minutes ahead. Then, whenever anyone comes looking for you, it’ll always tell them you’re not back yet.

I found it on Gizmodo.
