Red Shouldered Hawk

redshouldered hawk

It’s been really fun watching these guys return to our backyard area. There used to be one. Now there’s half a dozen I think. Beautiful birds. And I’ve even watched one clear out a snake from our backyard. It was like watching a bird eat black spaghetti.

That's strange. I've never heard of such!
  • A young red shouldered hawk came and tried to talk to the dog, Scruffy, a pitt bull terrier through the kitchen window. The hawk got bored and flew off, only to return 20 minutes later. Hawk has been staying around the back porch all afternoon. We live in the country, house overlooks 2 ponds. I've never experienced a bird behaving like this before.

Any comments? Is there any folklore on red shouldered hawks?
