My shared items

rob | site news | Thursday, May 17th, 2007

Yes, I’m still on a blog hiatus for a while, but I’m going to take a quick break from it to let you know that I’m experimenting with something new. It’s from my Google Reader and it’s my shared items. In short, it’s random blog posts that I find interesting all mashed into one page. It even has an RSS feed for it too. So if you want to read some random-but-interesting-to-me posts, hop on over.

UPDATE: I’ve added a module in the sidebar to display the seven latest headlines I’m sharing. I call it “Good Now”.

Hi, Atus!

rob | whatever | Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

There’s a friend of mine who is moving into my place for a while. Well, I can’t really call him a friend. I don’t know him that well. But he seems like a good guy.

His name is Atus (pronounced “AY-tus”).

We’ve been talking for a while about getting together. He’s been calling for weeks. Being a hospitable guy, I decided to invite him in to stay for a while.

I’m not sure how long he’ll stay.

So everyone say ‘hi’ to Atus for me: “Hi, Atus”!

PS. I added a hurricane update module to the sidebar so we can all keep track of sub-tropical storm Andrea and all her brothers and sisters this year.

New and Old Bangkok

New and Old Bangkok, originally uploaded by orangejack.

One of my favorite shots I got from Bangkok. I love the new skyscrapers vs the older style colored boat.

Our last night in Chiang Mai was a bit stormy. It hadn’t rained the 2 weeks we were in Thailand. But the last night it really whipped up.

Email in Google Reader Updated

rob | blog and rss tips, techno cool | Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

greader

Man it seemed to take forever but Google Reader finally improved the one feature that I really thought it to be lacking in.

One of the features that I really liked about Bloglines is emailing an RSS article out to someone. The email received was nice and clean, formatted for your liking. When Google Reader came out, their email was just plain text that looked like garbled gook.

Today I noticed that they had the word “(updated)” by the email icon. And wouldn’t you know it? The email looks great! Finally! Thanks Google Reader!

NOTE: I’m am talking about a feature it already had. I still think it’s a crime that Google Reader doesn’t use Google Search!

UPDATE: Ha! After I made my discovery I found that Download Squad already reported this after the official Google Blog announced it!

Making Silk

rob | travel, video | Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Almost forgot my Thailand video of the day for today! I’ve got one more for tomorrow. Today is showing how they loom silk. Is that the right word? They’ve already harvested the silk and made colors. Here she is making a fabric. She changes colors to make a pattern on the fabric.

Keyshawn and Denver

rob | sports | Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Some of you will know what I’m talking about. Others this will just go over your head. If it does, just let it.

I’m going out on a limb here: If Denver picked up Keyshawn, they would play New England in the AFC title next January.

stye-me’d

rob | navel gazing | Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Two days ago my right contact in my eye was bugging me all day. Yesterday my right eye lid was getting swollen. Today it’s worse. The doc said, “Yup, it’s a stye.

It doesn’t hurt, just irritating. So I’m giving it some TLC, hot presses, and eye drops.

Yippee.

At least we’re here in the US now and don’t have to try all kinds of crazy home remedies. Just good’ol medicated eye drops for me!

No vacuuming for me!

rob | current event | Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

I received an alert about the Georgia and Florida wildfires and how the smoke effects people. It’s been smoky here in Orlando for at least a week. It’s annoying.

But here’s the cool thing that the Health Information notice said:

Do not add to indoor pollution. When smoke levels are high, do not use anything that burns, such as candles, fireplaces, or gas stoves. Do not vacuum, because vacuuming stirs up particles already inside your home. Do not smoke, because smoking puts even more pollution into the air. (emphasis added)

Did you read that Babe? The internets say I shouldn’t vacuum. My hands are tied.

There are two types of Internet users, those that use RSS and those that don’t. This video is for the people who could save time using RSS, but don’t know where to start.
