North America must have the lowest nation/surface ratio in the world. The huge subcontinent is made up of only two sovereign states: Canada and the US…[so] What is the most fragmented that North America could have been? [What if] every national identity crisis resolved itself in favor of the separatists instead?

@Becky : if each war that broke out over the years had a different winner, what could America look like? For instance, if the South won the Civil War and the North lost, then the South would be it’s own independent nation.
