Did you double-dip?

rob | whatever | Thursday, January 31st, 2008

The value of my Clemson diploma just went up.

A Clemson prof has prooved double dipping a chip is bad.

The way I would put it is, before you have some dip at a party, look around and ask yourself, would I be willing to kiss everyone here? Because you don’t know who might be double dipping, and those who do are sharing their saliva with you.

In a similar study, he also found that the 5-second rule is false. He obviously never saw this video.

My daily LOST

rob | lost, tv | Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Guess what? Yeah, LOST starts up for real tonight. But you knew that.

Yeah, there was an “enhanced” replay of the season 3 finale last night. But you knew that too.

Here’s what you don’t know: I’m a new blogger for the Daily LOST!

I made my first post today about the start of the 2008 LOST schedule.

So I won’t be posting about LOST here anymore, however, every time I post anything on the new Daily LOST blog, I’ll let you know here too.

Now go get LOST tonight!

Kid Fit Challenge in Orlando

rob | current event | Thursday, January 31st, 2008

kid fit logoDid you know that one third of the children in Central Florida are overweight (that’s not counting us kids at heart)? Well on Saturday 09 February here in Orlando something is going to be done about it.

No, we’re not all eating chicken-fried bacon or hamburgers from a can.

Instead there’s going to be an attempt to set a world’s record for the most kids participating in a simultaneous exercise class.

For more information check out the Kid Fit Challenge website.

I Voted

rob | current event | Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

I VotedI did my civic duty today and voted in the Florida primary. My sticker says that “I made freedom count” today. Seems kinda special.

Before I voted I asked the lady who was winning so far. She wouldn’t tell me.

I hope I picked the right person.

A Quiet Super Bowl Ad

rob | tv, video | Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

The Super Bowl is known for great commercials. Well, another great one is going to be shown that I think everyone should catch. Fortunately it’s online already. It’s called Bob’s House. Unfortunately I can’t embed the vid here so follow the link.

Bob’s House. Don’t adjust your speakers; this upcoming Super Bowl ad was created and enacted by deaf people.

Back to the days of 3.5

3.5" floppysMy aunt snail mailed us a .jpg file on a 3.5″ floppy disk. What in the world am I supposed to do with that?

Might as well send me .mp3 files on an 8-track.

No, that analogy probably isn’t right. An 8-track would go with the 5.25″ floppys and the 3.5″ floppy would go with a cassette tape. I think.

Oh it doesn’t matter. I did find a spare internal 3.5″ drive from a laptop I had several years ago but it doesn’t plug into my “new” laptop that is 3 years old.

I spent about 45 minutes in a Dell chatroom waiting for help just to find out Dell offers nothing to help me. Get this, my chat support guy was named “Max Mace”. How cool is that? But he told me I can’t use those drives. Oh, yeah, I said “those”. I found a zip drive and remembered we have files on zip disks too.

So I just ordered a cable to plug them into USB. I hope it works. And if it does, I’m moving all of those files off and onto a USB drive.

Who needs Mac’s Time Machine when you can do this instead?

Central Florida Flickrs is 2 Today

rob | current event, photo | Monday, January 28th, 2008

Happy Birthday to a group/community I started 2 years ago today: Central Florida Flickrs.

I started it 2 years ago today because I saw a need for people on Flickr who lived in the same area to share their work. There was already a group called “Orlando, Florida”. It is for photos of Orlando. I created “Central Florida Flickrs” for people of Central Florida.

If you are a photo taker and live in Central Florida, please, you’re invited to be a part of our group.

Here’s why I’m so pleased with this group:

I’m impressed that we have over 400 members and 18,000 photos in the pool. But you know what’s really cool? At least 150 conversations on the boards!

They call this a group on Flickr, but I have experience with this sort of thing. This group has turned into a community and I think that’s really cool. I’ve tried to stay ‘hands off’ with the rules as much as possible and have only had to create 2 rules in response to abusers.

We’ve got people trying to help each other find jobs, get together for photo shoots, advice, and playing games.

This rocks!

Smile! It’s our Birthday!

24 observations about 24

rob | navel gazing, tv, video | Sunday, January 27th, 2008

My wife and I finished a ‘24′ marathon this weekend. We borrowed the DVDs for season 1-5 in December. This weekend we knocked out season 5. Friday we watched 8 hours. Saturday was 9 hours. Today was 7 hours.

A friend at church said, “That’s like a full-time job!”

I almost feel as tired too! But it was fun. We’re going to take a break before Season 6 for a few reasons: 1 - we don’t have the DVDs and 2 - it’s time for LOST and Survivor. But it’ll be fun to pick it back up soon.

In the meantime, Patricia posted 24 observations about the show “24″. They’re pretty good.
